Its Christmastime … and the world is a flurry of music about caroling, laughing in the snow, Santa Claus, and?
Well, I found it hard to find songs that were a bit off this beaten path. Songs about people that struggle during the holidays. Songs about people that don’t quite get the whole “Christmas feeling”. People that could be you.
I think we all, at one point or another, have trouble fitting in to the holidays. Feeling like its outside ourselves somehow. And we look on at everyone else enjoying themselves with merry and cheer, and just not feeling that feeling. This is what I wanted to capture with the song “Home for Christmas”.
It is well documented that Christmas time is the most likely time of the year to experience depression. The suicide rate is higher during December than any other month, which tells us that Christmas depression should be taken quite seriously. Depression at Christmas time can be triggered by a multitude of things, such as losses, failures, and loneliness.
We need to be mindful of our friends and family during this time. And if you are someone feeling lonely or depressed, know that you are not alone. And hopefully listening to Home for Christmas can bring you some comfort in that.
Always, have a happy and safe holiday!
